Symptoms of Brakes That Need Service
Loud Brakes
If your brakes are very loud, chances are your brake pads have worn down and need to be replaced. Brake pads are compressed against your rotor by a heavy-duty brake caliper to bring you to a stop. When those pads brake down, your caliper ends up digging into your rotor, hence the loud noise. If this is left unchecked, you may end up needing to go beyond a regular brake job and replace your brake calipers as well.
Poor Braking Performance
If you're having difficulty bringing your truck to a stop, chances are your brakes need maintenance or repair. Weak brakes can be caused by anything from a seized brake caliper to a damaged air-brake system. If your air-brake system is to blame, you may find a leak that’s lessening your system’s air pressure. Leaks are commonly found on air lines and valves. This is a very serious issue, for air-brake systems are the fastest way for a heavy-duty truck to come to a stop. Other onboard braking systems aren’t as effective.
